Communications Liaison

The Ward 12 Office is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a Communications Liaison. Our office is dedicated to fostering robust communication channels between constituents, external partners, and the Ward 12 Office, City Councillor, and Administration. We support over 100,000 residents, 7 community associations, and numerous other non-profits and social organizations. With a focus on providing timely, accurate, and relevant information, we strive to keep the community informed about the work of the Councillor and Ward 12 Office.

We are seeking an individual whose values align with our collaborative, fun, and hard-working team. You have previous experience in people-focused, community-based roles in a combination of paid and volunteer work. You should enjoy problem-solving and connecting the dots. You have a passion for supporting communities and an interest in public service, politics, and policy, neighbourhood development, and communication. Strong project management skills and an ability to plan and work ahead will be a key asset in this role.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be a collaborative team member.
    • Attend weekly staff meetings,
    • Check in frequently with team members and Councillor, and
    • Track and communicate Ward 12 action items and priorities.
  • Craft compelling communications including press releases, letters, reports, speeches, newsletters, and social media content.
  • Curate engaging digital content, including images and videos, to effectively communicate Ward 12 priorities, initiatives, and events.
  • Monitor media and social media channels for timely response and proactive community engagement.
  • Coordinate and lead social media planning and strategy.
  • Support the monthly digital newsletter content creation.
  • Plan and coordinate communication activities such as open houses within the Ward.

 

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Manage or coordinate a broad range of public inquiries and issues.
    • Prioritize issues and requests in terms of urgency, sensitivity and complexity,
    • Develop and recommend appropriate issue strategies,
    • Identify community partners and inform, collaborate, and track issues; following-up to ensure resolution,
    • Provide Councillor with ongoing issue research and updates, and
    • Receive, log, and file correspondence, reports etc. received by Councillor.
  • Attend community meetings with Councillor or as Councillor's representative to gather or relay information.
  • Research and gather information as determined by Councillor,
    • Provide Councillor briefing documentation for council or Ward meetings/issues,
    • Track voting record and notice of motions submitted by Councillor.
  • Other duties as assigned by Councillor.

 

Requirements:

  • Experience creating content for Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
  • Familiarity with graphic design software (our office uses Canva and Adobe).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Relevant volunteer experience, as well as formal education, will be valued.
  • People-focused, community-based experience is preferred.

Position Details:

Full-time (35-40 hours per week) with flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.

Ability to work both in-office and from home.

Compensation dependent on experience and accreditation, starting at a minimum of $33 per hour.
